Malala, the youngest Pakistan activist to win a Noble Peace Prize

Women in History

Born in Pakistan on July 12, 1997, Malala is the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. We celebrate Malala for her courage and fearlessness in speaking up publicly against the prohibition on the education of girls. Malala denounced the strict Islamic law that banned girls from schools and set barriers for women from decision-making in society. It has not been an easy journey for Malala as she slightly escaped an assassination attempt. Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman on her way home from school. Fortunately, she survived but the assassination attempt sparked protests. The result was a petition which yielded the ratification of the Right to Education Bill. She was nominated and won the Nobel Peace prize in 2014.
