It’s quite interesting to know that the wireless technology (Wi-Fi) that is used today to effortlessly connect electronic devices such as phones, laptops, tablets was the invention of a woman! Born of Austrian-American origins, Hedy Lamarr was the pioneer of WI-FI, GPS, and Bluetooth. Lamarr pioneered the invention during wartime to create a “system that changed frequencies making it difficult for the Axis powers to decode radio messages” (Kratz: 2020). Unfortunately, for Lamarr, her invention was barely publicized and was not recognized until the early 2000s.
