Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian-born African feminist and author. She uses her writing to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. Adichie is famously known for her article titled, “We should all be feminists” which discusses the various stereotypes related to feminism. Adichie exposes the idea that feminists are often misunderstood and the term feminism is considered a foreign concept to Africa which seeks to brainwash African women to exert power over men (Shukla, 2020). In addition, the book is a guide to female liberation. Women are often caught up in chains brought by a patriarchal culture that exacerbated toxic masculinities and oppresses women. An interesting fact to know about Chimamanda Ngozi is her decision to go against convention by being walked down the aisle at her wedding by both her parents. This decision she made because she felt that Western traditions sidelined the role of the bride’s mother. Chimamanda once said, “We can make changes…we can unmake convention to make things more just, more complete, more beautiful”. Chimamanda Ngozi continues to fight against gender inequalities faced by African women and continues to be a champion of the African feminist movement.
